John Carter "Populating Mars" Featurette

Some video fun to kick off the weak. With it being a year since John Carter (or Whiny Kitsch and the Shape Shifters of Confusing Doom!) came out we'll be taking a look back at this film, both good (More Lynn Collins!) and bad (The Rest!). In this case here is a featurette that originally was only available on a bonus disc from Best Buy for those who bought the 4-Disc 3D Blu-Ray version that takes a look at the special FX. So take a peek and enjoy.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this. I have not been able to get the extra discs so I am very grateful to see all the extras that I can. Aside from what you think about the story itself, I am completely fascinated by the technical process of merging live action with the cgi. Enjoyed the side by side comparisons of how a scene was shot and its finished result, seeing Taylor jerked around for the arena scene especially, and the animators' explanation of how they worked. Wish I was able to start a career over, it would be this. Please post more of these things if you can. Like are there any more deleted scenes that we haven't seen, for instance.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've looked around Youtube and I haven't seen any additonal deleted scenes except the ones included on the basic Blu-Ray release. There was some extended scenes included with the Best Buy bonus disc so they may show up online eventually so I'll keep an eye out.

Thanks for sharing. I love behind-the-scenes stuff and I was all the more frustrated of having only the "100 years" featurette on the dvd. At least some glimpse of Samantha Morton and Thomas Haden Church! What surprised me was the extent of the wire work on Taylor Kitsch. I thought the CG stunt double replaced the actor earlier than that... Poor guy!

I am also curious about when they started using the stunt double more. I understood that Taylor was supposed to be doing his own stunts at the beginning, but at some point, maybe half way through or later, he collapsed from exhaustion, so was that when they started using the stunt double? I know on the second screen 360 degree feature they showed a double leaping up to the balcony where the duplicate Dejah Thoris (Matai Shang) was holding the real Dejah captive and said Taylor was waiting in his dressing room till they needed him. I suppose it could have varied day to day depending on how he was feeling or how sore he was. What is your understanding on this?

Articles reported Taylor did 95-98% of his stunts himself.
